Methodology

Returns

We estimate stock portfolios from parsed disclosures and public equity prices. Amounts use range midpoints; “over $5 million” trades use $5 million. Returns compound daily, excluding cash contributions and holdings adjustments. Politicians rank by three-year return with at least 10 purchases and sales combined. The same politician, stock, date and transaction type count as one trade.

Stock rankings

Hottest Stocks and Biggest Selloffs score 90-day buying minus selling, weighted by politician rank and transaction age. Most Owned ranks estimated dollar holdings. Counts include unranked politicians.

Limits

Unparsed or unusable records are omitted; older prices may carry forward. Dividends are not added separately. Profiles show calculation dates and SPY comparisons (S&P 500 ETF). Estimates can change and are not verified brokerage returns.
